GG2 PC program for scoring bridge tournaments ================================================================== P R E F A C E ================================================================== GG2 runs in both Swedish and English. At the moment the complete documentation exists only in Swedish and so this release to English-speaking countries is a preliminary version. This documentation is a brief guide on the use of the program, comprised of translated excerpts from the Swedish User's Guide and Reference Guide. This brief outline includes the basic features of the program; there are many other features you can experiment with yourself. This is the first version of GG2. A free upgrade including a manual in English will be ready in the end of 1997. The major improvement is that the coming version will be available for use with Windows. No changes, unless needed because of unknown errors, will be made to the DOS program. Other improvements will be introduced, tailored to tournament needs outside of Sweden. This is a short summary of what you can do: * All types of competitions can be scored - pairs, teams and individual. All of them can be played as normal events, barometer, semi barometer and, in all cases but the individual, as Swiss. * The available scoring types for pairs and individual are matchpoints (top-bottom), IMP across the field and Butler (datum score). For teams you can use any normal Victory points table or play Board-A-Match. * You can print starting lists, final results, barometer score tables, private scorecards, deal printouts, bidding practice charts and much more. You can design the layout of all these printouts yourself. * Distributions created with the Jannersten duplication machine and copied to a diskette can be read by the program and printed next to the score tables. This was just a brief summary of what you can do with the program. Much more is available, but the complete documentation delivered with the upgrade will cover that. 4 June 1997 Tomas Brenning S:t Eriksgatan 19 S-112 39 STOCKHOLM Sweden Phone: +46 8 653 56 47 Fax: +46 8 653 86 47 ================================================================== I N T R O D U C T I O N ================================================================== HARDWARE REQUIREMENTS ===================== There are no particular hardware requirements. You need a PC. The program can be run on a 286 with or without a colour screen. A hard disk is recommended. Printouts can be made on matrix, ink or laser printers. You can not print on laser printers that are in POSTSCRIPT mode. You can not use a mouse even though the appearance of the program is graphical. INSTALLING GG2 ============== To install GG2, insert the diskette and write "A:INSTALL" or "B:INSTALL" depending on which drive you are using and press . Press again and use the arrows and to select what language you are using. Use the arrows to move to the respective options and press to install them one by one. When you have finished installing the different options, press to exit the installation program. STARTING GG2 ============ Write "GG2" and press to start the program. The first window that appears gives you some information about the program. Press to continue. PROBLEMS CONCERNING COLOURS Sometimes the program is set to be used with colours while you have a black/white screen or vice versa. You can start the program in colour with "GG2 BLUE" and in black/white with "GG2 BW" or "GG2 WB". The latter can be used with some portable computers where the grey scales are inverted. SPECIAL KEYS ============ is used for a lot of things. The normal is that cancels or finishes something that is going on at the moment. Usually the current window is closed. In menus the current menu is closed and you move the the previous menu. Another interpretation of is "continue". You can consider this as if the current action is interrupted and you move to the next action. confirms or accepts. and is used to delete things if that is possible. and - is used to move between fields. moves right or "to the next" and - does the opposite. - is used to print after you have selected "Print" in the print menu. MENUS ===== Menus of different kinds are good for intuitive usage of computer programs. There are some different kinds of menus that will be described below. In all menus you use the arrows to move the cursor to the wanted menu item. When the cursor is positioned you have to press to select the menu item. MENU BAR A menu bar is a horizontal menu located on the top row of the screen. Below this menu bar pull-down menus are displayed - different menus for different menu bar items. You move the cursor with and and press if no pull-down menu is displayed. Every menu bar item has a highlighted letter. You can select an item by pressing -. If you do it this way you do not have to press afterwards to select the item. PULL-DOWN MENU A pull-down menu is a vertical menu positioned anywhere on the screen. You move the cursor with and and press to select the current menu item. Every pull-down menu item has a highlighted letter. You can select an item be pressing that letter. If you do it this way you do not have to press afterwards to select the item. There are three different kinds of menu items you can select. In all cases the current menu changes to show your subsequent choice or input. * Some menu items require you to select a menu item from a new pull-down menu. * Some menu items require input. * Some menu items belong to the "Yes"/"No" category. Just select the menu item to change from "Yes" to "No" or vice versa. PROTECTED MENU ITEMS In some menus some of the items may not be available at all times. In this case it is not possible to select that item. The item has no highlighted character and the colour of that item differs from the other items. FIELD INPUT =========== works as normal. At numerical input works the same way as <0>. This can be useful on portable computers where the numerical keyboard sometimes is embedded in the normal keyboard. This often means that <0> can be difficult to reach. At numerical input <+> works the same way as . <-> works the way <-> is supposed to work. At numerical input you can use <-> as a negative which means that if you are supposed to enter the result "-420" you can either enter "-420" and press or enter "420" and press <->. The latter way saves one keypress and is therefore much quicker in the long run. "YES"/"NO" QUESTIONS ==================== Sometimes you are supposed to answer a question with "Yes" or "No". A popup window appears in the middle of the screen giving you the question. Right of the question is a suggested answer. You have three possible options: * Press to answer "Yes". If the suggested answer is "Yes", works the same way as . * Press to answer "No". If the suggested answer is "No", works the same way as . * Press to cancel. Sometimes you can not cancel and then works the same way as . ================================================================== D O T H I S B E F O R E Y O U B E G I N ================================================================== Almost everything that can be done in more than one way can be adjusted by the user. From the beginning this setup as made to fit the normal needs of the users. When you have changed SELECT PRINTER AND PAPER TYPE ============================= Select Miscellaneous-Setup-Printer-Paper type (the lower of the two). Select the option that seems to fit your needs. After you have changed what you want, press until you reach the main menu. TURN OFF THE PRINTER INITIATION =============================== Select Miscellaneous-Setup-Printer-Printer and the printer type you will use. An ink printer is considered to be a matrix printer. Change "Initiate printer" to "No". Some old printers do not work well together with this command, and to be on the safe side it is better to have it turned off. SELECT FORMAT FOR DATE AND TIME =============================== Select Miscellaneous-Setup-Miscellaneous. Select the options "Date format" and "Time format" and select the appropriate options. DO YOU WANT TO ENTER THE LAST "0" IN ALL RESULTS? ================================================= Change Miscellaneous-Setup-Input-Result * 10 to "Yes" if you want the last "0" of all results added automatically. This means of course that you enter "42" if the result is "420". ================================================================== A S I M P L E B A R O M E T E R ================================================================== In this chapter we will go through the steps for running a barometer. No fancy stuff will be shown - the example is just meant as an introduction to the basics of the program. In the different menus there will be a lot of items apart from the ones we will use. Please do not worry about about them for the time being. From now on it is assumed that you are familiar with the contents of the introductory chapters. When it comes to usage of the menus, remember that whenever this guide asks you to select an item that means you are supposed to move the cursor with the arrows AND press to select the item. ASSUMPTIONS =========== In this example we will run a barometer. Seven pairs showed up which means there will be a bye. The pairs will be numbered from 1 to 8. Two boards will be played every round and the competition will be played as an endless Howell where we for no particular reason put the bye pair (i.e. the pair that does not really exist) North-South at table 1. This means the bye pair will get pair number 8. Score slips for one board at a time will be used which means you will get two slips from each table each round. By using single result slips (scorecard) you can start entering results before the round is over if you collect the results in advance. This method is not recommended though because multiple result score slips make the entering much faster. The second method will be shown in the next chapter. No movement scheme (called "rotation" in the program) will be used which means you have to enter both the North-South and East-West pair numbers. STARTING THE COMPETITION ======================== Select File-Competition-New/Open. Every competition needs a filename and the program suggests today's date. Press to display the competition setup menu. The following items have to be selected and changed: COMPETITION NAME Enter the competition name. This name will be printed on top of all printouts. You can not start a competition without entering a competition name. SIGNATURE Enter a signature if you want. This will be printed in the bottom of all printouts. CALCULATION TYPE Select "Matchpoints" after which you will get to a new menu with some additional items. SCORECARD Select "Every board". Press AFTER you have made your selection to return to the setup menu. BOARDS/ROUND Enter "2". PAIR NUMBERS When you enter pair numbers you can use several different pair number intervals. This time we will only use one. First enter "1" and then "8". Even though there are only seven pairs in the competition the bye pair must be part of one of the pair number intervals. Press to return to the setup menu. BYE PAIR Enter "8". QUIT Now the competition setup is finished. Press to continue. You will get a question asking if you want to save the setup. Answer "Yes". After you have returned to the main menu you can see that the current setup is displayed in the right side of the screen. That part is called the status window. The competition name is displayed in the bottom of the screen. ENTER NAMES =========== Select Input-Name. As you can see, the menu bar on the topmost row has changed to make other items available at name input than when using the main menu. Enter the names of the players in the competition. When you have entered a pair, just press to move to the next pair. Since pair number 8 is the bye pair you are not supposed to enter anything there. Press when you have finished entering names. ROUND 1 ======= The following results are to be entered: Pair Board 1 Board 2 8-1 Bye 2-7 420 -100 6-3 420 -200 4-5 450 140 ENTER RESULTS Make sure you are at the main menu. Press <1>. This automatically selects Input-Result and changes the menu bar in a similar fashion to the one when you selected Input-Name. Press to continue. (If you are supposed to select board number 14 you just continue to press <4> and .) One result window and one information window appear on the screen. In the result window you can find columns for the results, the current board number and the current vulnerability. The information window gives you the remaining number of results and the remaining pair numbers. This window will be updated along the input. Enter the first real result, i.e. pair 2 versus pair 7. Enter "2", enter "7" and finish by entering "420". Press after each input. When the result has been input the cursor moves to the next row. Enter the other results. When you have entered all results and only the bye pair and its opponents remain they are registered automatically and board number 2 becomes the current board. In the status window on the right side of the screen you can see the number of played boards, the average and what boards have been scored. Entering results for the second board is almost the same as for the first one. You will notice the difference when you enter pair number "2" because you get "7" automatically. This is because the program knows that pair 2 and pair 7 already had met this round. When you enter negative results like -100 you can either enter "- 100" and press or enter "100" and press <->. Enter the remaining results. After that, the current board will be number 3. Press to return to the main menu. PRINT SCORE TABLES AND NAMES To print is very easy. The program keeps track of what boards are supposed to be printed and how the print layout looks like. Select Print-Print-Pairs-Print. The program creates the print layout as it will look on the printer. If you want you can move around with the arrows to see the parts that would not fit on the screen. When you want to print, just press -. After a successful printout you wil return to the main menu. ROUND 2 ======= The following results are to be entered: Pair Board 3 Board 4 Correction, Board 1 8-2 Bye 2-7 450 3-1 -650 -90 7-4 -1430 -120 5-6 100 -90 ENTER RESULTS Enter the results for board 3 and 4 in the same way as before. When you have finished with board 4 you have to correct the result from the first round. Press - to move the cursor to the main menu item "Board". Select "Board". Enter "1". You can now see the results of board 1. Just move the cursor with the arrows to the result you want to change and enter the new result. Press to return to the main menu. PRINT SCORE TABLES AND NAMES Select Print-Print-Pairs-Print. As you can see the program not only keeps track of the boards you have scored but also the boards that have been corrected. CONTINUE THE COMPETITION ======================== Yes! OPEN A COMPETITION AFTER THE COMPUTER HAS BEEN TURNED OFF ========================================================= Make sure you are at the main menu. Press and press to quit GG2. Restart GG2. This way we have simulated for instance a power failure. Select File-Competition-New/Open. There are two ways to open a competition: * Enter the filename. * Press . You will get a list of the available competitions. Move the cursor with the arrows to the competition you want to open and press . At this point you are back where you were interrupted. ================================================================== A M O R E A D V A N C E D B A R O M E T E R ================================================================== Now you will get to try out some of the more advanced features in GG2. Of course, not all of them can be tried out, but anyway, it is a start. ASSUMPTIONS =========== A 27 board barometer with three boards per round will be played. The pairs are divided into two groups - 1-12 and 21-34 - that have separate but equal movement schemes. (In GG2 "movement" is called "rotation".) The pair will be entered in advance because everybody had to register for the competition. The distributions will be read from a diskette containing a file created by the Jannersten duplication machine. This makes it possible to print the distributions next to the scores. Score slips with space for three results per round will be used. An endless Howell rotation will be used for the seatings. PREPARING THE COMPETITION ========================= Select File-Competition-New/Open and enter a filename. Enter a competition name and a signature. Press to save the competition. READ DISTRIBUTIONS Select Input-Deal. Enter the diskette containing the file with the distributions. Press - to get to the main menu. Select "Read all". Select "Duplimate". Move the cursor to "Drive" and enter "A" or "B" depending on which diskette station you use and press . Move the cursor to the correct distribution file and press . If you want you can enter the distributions manually. The symbols being used are the English ones - "A", "K", "Q", "J" and "T". You only have to enter North's, East's and South's hands; you get West's hand automatically when you enter the last card. takes you to the next deal. ENTER NAMES Enter the names for the pair numbers 1-12 and 21-34. PREPARE ROTATION SCHEME Select Input-Rotation and press twice. Select "Mark". Press 12 times to mark pair numbers 1-12 to be used with the rotation table that comes with the program. (Make sure that you installed the rotation tables when you installed the program.) Press and select "Read". Select "Filename" and press . Select "35-BORD.R-H" (that is the Swedish name of an endless Howell rotation table). Press to save the rotation. PRINT A PRELIMINARY STARTING LIST Select Print-Print-Starting list-Print. The entered pairs and their respective seatings for the first round will be printed. Press - to print. PRINT A DEAL COLLECTION Select Print-Print-Deal collection. Enter "1" and the highest board number you want to print. Press and select "Print". Press - to print the deal collection. STARTING THE COMPETITION ======================== Now it is time to start the competition for real. Select File- Competition-New/Open and press to confirm the filename. You have to do the following: * Select Calculation type-Matchpoints (or some other calculation type). * Change "Barometer" to "Yes". * Press and enter "Boards/round". * Select "Pair numbers" and enter the two pair number intervals. Press to save the competition setup. WHAT HAPPENS IF FEWER OR MORE PAIRS TURNED UP? Since the actual number of pairs we had prepared the tournament for showed up everything was OK. If another number of pairs would have shown up you would have had to delete the rotation you created and create a new one. The way you do this is to select Input-Rotation and move the cursor with the arrows to "1". Press to delete the rotation and create a new one like you did before. ROUND 1 ======= Press <1> and to start entering results for the first round. As you can see, three separate result windows are displayed on the screen in addition to the information window that displays the remaining number of results and the seatings in the current round according to the rotation. Enter all the results. You only have to enter the pair numbers once per row. When you have entered all the results you automatically get the printout for that round as if you would have selected Print-Print-Pairs-Print. This happens because you set "Barometer" to "Yes". Press - to print. ROUND 2 ======= Press <4> and to enter results for the second round (i.e. board 4). Enter the results. PAIRS SEATED IN THE WRONG DIRECTION Since you use score slips for all result of the round you get automatic pair numbers for all the boards except the first one. If a board was played in the wrong direction you have to take care of this. First enter the results ignoring the fact that one was played in the wrong direction. Press and or - to move the cursor to the incorrect result. Press -

and select "NS <-> EW" to switch the pair numbers for that particular result. "STRANGE RESULTS" If you have a ruling of any kind or maybe a duplication error leading to a part of the tables playing a board with one distribution and the other part with another distribution you find these options in the result menu. Press - to get to that menu. PRINT A PRIVATE SCORECARD ========================= If some pair would come to you during the competition and complain about its total score it is very convenient to be able to print a private or a personal scorecard and let them check the results themselves. A general rule is that the players are to be blamed, not you. Select Print-Print-Private and enter the pair number. Select "Print" and press - to print. PRINT FINAL RESULTS =================== When the competition is over and you want to print the final results there is a special print layout used for final results. Select Print-Print-Final results-Print to print the final results. ADJUSTED SCORE FOR A COMPETITION WITH A BYE According to the bridge laws you are supposed to be given the percentage you had on the other boards in the round you had a bye, but in a barometer this causes problems since your score on the bye round will change with your result in the competition. Because of that, 60% is given all through the competition and can easily be changed before the printout of the final results. Select Print-Print-Final results and select "Bye". Select "Own percentage" and select "Print" to print the final results. This way the scores for the pairs in question have been changed to their respective percentages. ================================================================== P R I N T C A R D I N D I C A T O R S ================================================================== You can only print card indicators if you use the special version created for use in Israel. This is because the program is tailor- made for the special format of the Israeli card indicators. START A COMPETITION =================== Start a competition. Starting a competition as "Preparations" will do. SHUFFLE ======= Select Input-Deal. Press - and select "Shuffle". Select "No. deals" and enter the number of deals you want to shuffle. PRINT CARD INDICATORS ===================== In the main menu, select Print-Card indicators. Select "Board" and enter the board number intervals to be printed. If you want to print several copies of the same board number interval to be handed out in different sections, just enter the same interval several times. Press to return to the menu. Make sure the card indicator paper is set correctly. The printing will start on the topmost row. Select "Print" to print the card indicators. The printout will start immediately. ================================================================== S W I S S T E A M S ================================================================== GG2 also works for teams tournaments - the only big difference between pairs and teams is the way the are scored. Result input is almost the same as for pairs. ASSUMPTIONS =========== We are going to score a teams event that will be played as Swiss. The seatings in the first two rounds will be by random and the seatings in the following rounds will be based on the rank BEFORE the previous round (i.e. the rank after round 1 determines the seating for round 3 and so on). There will be 16 teams and the tables will be numbered 1-8 and 101-108 to be able to determine at what tables the teams are supposed to be seated North-South and East-West. The objective is that you are not supposed to meet any other team more than once even though this can occur at the higher table numbers in the end of the tournament. The competition will be scored with an 8-0 Victory point table. Make sure that you installed the miscellaneous table when you installed the program, otherwise there will be no Victory points tables available. STARTING THE COMPETITION ======================== Select File-Competition-New/Open and enter a filename. Enter the competition name and a signature. Select Calculation type-Teams. Select "Victory points" and use the arrows to select "5, 8-0". Select "Swiss (automatic)" and select "Yes". Select "Add to the table number" and enter "100". Press to return to the normal competition setup menu. Select "Pair numbers" (the program does not really know already that it is a team competition) and enter "1" and "16". Press to save the competition. ENTER NAMES =========== Select Input-Name and enter the team names. If you want to enter the player names as well you have to press after each team name to move the cursor to the correct column. Enter the player names and press to return to the team name column. CREATE A RANDOM SEATING FOR ROUND 1 AND 2 ========================================= The first two rounds have to be created by random. Select Input- Rotation. Select "New" and confirm that the rotation we will create is meant for round 1. Select "Mark" and press to mark all the available teams. Press and select "Random". Confirm that you want to create an automatic Swiss rotation. Press to return to the main menu. The rotation the program creates for the first two rounds is a normal Mitchell movement where the East-West teams (in the lower half of the tables, meaning 1-8 in the example) move to the closest higher table number after round 1. PRINT STARTING LISTS FOR ROUNDS 1 AND 2 ======================================= Select Print-Print-Starting list-Print to print the starting list for round 1. Select Print-Print-Starting list-"Next round" and enter "2". Select "Print" to print the starting list for round 2. ROUND 1 ======= You enter the IMP results into the computer and the Victory points will be scored according to the table you chose at competition setup. If you need to check the ranges of the selected table you can do that in File-Victory points. ENTER RESULTS/CREATE ROTATION FOR ROUND 3 Select Input-Result. Select round 1. When you enter North-South you get East-West automatically. Continue by entering North- South's IMP and East-West's IMP. As mentioned previously the Victory points will be calculated by the program. After the last result you get a question if you want to create a rotation for round 3 based on the rank after round 1. Answer "Yes". This question comes up because you set "Swiss (automatic)" to something else than "No". PRINT RESULTS, NAMES AND SEATINGS FOR ROUND 3 Select Print-Print-Teams-Print to print the results for round 1 and the seatings for round 3. CORRECTION ========== If a result was incorrect it has to be changed. Select Input- Result and change the result. From here there are two ways to go: * Ignore the fact that you have made a correction and leave the created rotation as is. * Select Input-Rotation. Move the cursor to the round that was incorrectly created and press to delete it. Move the cursor to "New" and press . Enter the round number to be created and select "Swiss" to create the new rotation according to the new rank. Make sure to notify the players of the change in case you gave them the new seatings before you made the correction. CONTINUE THE COMPETITION ======================== The only thing you have to remenber is to create a rotation after each round. SWISS PAIRS =========== To arrange a Swiss Pairs tournament is done in the same fashion as the Swiss Teams. The only difference is that you have to select another calculation type. If you print the results using the "Pairs" score layout there will be no seatings printed. You have to create a new score layout for Swiss pairs where the seatings (i.e "Table") will be printed. First select Miscellaneous-Setup-Print and move the cursor to one of the empty items in the bottom. Press . Press . Select "Name" and give the layout a proper name. Select Normal name printout-Print the following and change "Table" to "Yes". This way you tell the program that the table seatings are to be printed. Press to get to the main menu. When you print the score tables, make sure you use the newly created print layout. NO DELAY ======== The way to run a Swiss tournament shown above included a one round delay when creating new rotations. This is used to minimize the time between the rounds. If you do not want this delay, it is possible. At competition setup, Select Special-"Next round" (+) and enter "1" to take away the delay. ================================================================== N O R M A L C O M P E T I T I O N ================================================================== Running a normal competition is basically like running a barometer with the exception that you do not print score tables every round. There are some things you have to think about that differs from running a barometer. STARTING A COMPETITION ====================== TWO WINNERS If you play a normal straight Mitchell with no arrow switches there will be two winners. Set "Competition type" to "Mitchell". SCORECARD You have to set this item to "Every board". UNIQUE PAIR NUMBERS One thing to consider is the fact that the pair numbers have to be unique. This means that there can not be a North-South pair number 1 and an East-West pair number 1 as is normal. Somehow you have to identify the pair numbers in some other way, for instance you can give North-South the table's number and add an even suitable number to East-West's pair number. If you do it this way you have to enter two pair number intervals. SAVE After you save you will get the question "Automatic simplified Mitchell rotation?". If you answer "Yes" the first interval you entered will count as a North-South interval, the second as East- West, the third as North-South, and so on. You have to answer "Yes" to tell the program what pairs are North-South and what pairs are East-West to make it possible for the program to pick two winners. NOT COMPLETED TOURNAMENT ======================== The normal kind of tournament is when there are for instance 11 tables and you play 8 rounds. This means that the boards have not been played by all pairs. Since the program expects results from all tables you have to deal with this. At competition setup, select "Results/Board" and enter exactly how many results there will be for each board. A bye considers as a result. If you do it this way, the program will only expect the entered number of results and the boards will be scored accordingly. FINISHING THE COMPETITION When there is a not completed competition the program will believe that the number of played boards and average are higher than they really are since all pairs have not played all boards. This causes the percentages to be incorrect. After all the results have been entered you have to select File- Competition-New/Open and confirm the filename. Select "Special". Two fields adjusting the number of played boards and average will be changed. Press twice to save the competition. Now the values are correct. THERE IS A BYE Since the program does not know on what boards there is a bye, the program can not give you the bye automatically as when all results were to be entered. You have to keep track of the boards the bye pair has "played" and who had a sit-out. When you enter the results for one of the boards that was "played" by the bye pair you have to enter the opponent of the bye pair as North-South, no matter whether they where seated North-South or East-West, and then enter the bye pair number. The program then understands what to do. ================================================================== I N D I V I D U A L T O U R N A M E N T ================================================================== An individual tournament is nothing else than a pairs tournament where you enter four player numbers instead of two pair numbers when entering results. The only real difference is at competition setup. STARTING THE COMPETITION ======================== CALCULATION TYPE Select one of the calculation types. After that, set "Individual" to "Yes". PAIR NUMBERS (PLAYER NUMBERS) To enter player numbers is a little trickier than entering pair numbers considering the fact that one, two or three players can have a bye each round. The following table shows how to enter player numbers: Number of Enter number Enter bye players of players player number? 19 20 Yes 20 20 No 21 22 Yes 22 23 Yes 23 24 Yes 24 24 No 25 26 Yes ... What it means is that you can enter any number of players EXCEPT exactly one more than a number that divides into four. ENTER NAMES =========== There is nothing special to entering names in an individual tournament. ENTER RESULTS ============= The only difference between an individual and a pairs tournament is that you have to enter four player numbers instead of two pair numbers. ================================================================== P R I N T S E T U P ================================================================== Through the print setup you can create the print layouts according to your own needs and desires. CREATE OR CHANGE PRINT LAYOUT ============================= Select Miscellaneous-Setup-Print. You will find a list of available print layouts. You can select to change one of the existing laytouts or move the cursor to one of the empty rows and create an entirely new layout. Select a layout. Answer the question whether you want to restore the original settings or not. The different layout items available will not be described in detail. In general you can decide what will be printed and some matters concerning the graphical layout. NAME For some of the layouts you can change the name. INFORMATION ROWS The information rows are printed below the header of each printout. The information rows consist of number of played boards, number of pairs, scoring type, the round's highest scorer, and other kinds of information. SCORE TABLE The score tables along with the distributions will be printed just below the information rows. This setup affects the layout of normal score tables, deal collections and private scorecards. NORMAL NAME PRINTOUT The names are printed below the score tables but above the pair number square (see below), a little depending on that setup. If you set "Normal name printout" to "Fill page" the program will only print the names that fit on the current page AFTER the score tables and the pair number square has been printed. This means that you can not be quite sure that you will get a name printout at all. Normally you will, but under certain circumstances, you might not. If you select "Print the following" you get a list of available fields that can be printed. PAIR NUMBER SQUARE The pair number square consists of pair number, rank and total score. If you select "Pair number square" you can select to put the square in different locations on the paper. If you select "Adjusted to score" the least space consuming place will be selected - either at the bottom of the paper or next to score tables if there is space there. TEMPORARY PRINT SETUP ===================== If you select Print-Print-...-Setup you can change the print layout exactly as above. The only difference is that that changes are not saved. ================================================================== M O V E M E N T S ================================================================== In GG2 a "movement" is called "rotation". This part of the program is the one that will be most improved in the coming version. The idea is that the program will be able to use all the movements in the book "Movement - A Fair Approach". The book can be retrieved from Jannersten Company. When you install the program you are supposed to install some rotation tables. Out of these, the only useful one is the one for endless Howell used for the seatings at a barometer. (To understand the description below it takes some understanding on how an endless Howell really works.) The rotation table is called "35-BORD.R-H" (stupid Swedish name) and has the following layout: * The rotation table can be used for up to 35 tables. * In the first round one pair at each table gets the table number as its pair number. The sum of the pair numbers at every table should equal to the number of pairs + 1. * At tables 3, 4, 6, 10, 12, 13, 15, 16, 17, 18, 20, 24, 25, 29, 30, 32 the North-South pair number is the lower of the two pair numbers. * North-South at table 1 does not move. * Pair 1 moves to table 2 where the higher of the two pair numbers was seated. All other pairs move to their pair number - 1. In short, one pair moves one table up and one pair one table down at each table. Table 1 E/W moves to table 2. At the highest table the pair supposed to move to the higher table stays at that table and changes direction. Of course you need to prepare movement instructions for the above described movement. This movement gives a reasonable balance for every number of tables you select.
